Speakers at the rally will include Administrator Teresa Lasseter, NASCOE Vice-President Bonnie Heinzman, Colorado’s State Executive Director Lewis Frank, and the Colorado State Committee consisting of Chan Fogg, Landis Porter, John Schweizer, Leon Silkman and Reggie Wyckoff.
It was suggested that the hospitality room should be kept open Friday night for those that may not go to Cripple Creek.
The group picture will be scheduled for a time when Teresa Lasseter is available.
Chad Hart was asked to order the Lanyards and Plastic covers for the name tags.
With no other Southwest Area Rally business to discuss at this time the meeting was switched over to the organizational meeting of CASCOE.
Nadene Gaynor informed those present that Chad Hart and Kevin Reeves will again be attending the Legislative Conference for 2007. They have scheduled meetings with Congressman John Salazar, Diana DeGette, Marilyn Musgrave and Senator Wayne Allard.
Next on the agenda was the minutes and treasurer’s report of the last meeting which was the CASCOE Convention October 6, 2006. A copy of each was handed out to everyone present. Chad Hart moved to accept the minutes and treasurer‘s report. Brent Fillmore seconded the motion. Motion Carried.
A copy of the amended by-laws was handed out.
Nadene Gaynor explained the terms of officers and directors and went over the duties of the district directors.
Nadene talked about how membership is down. We need to get everyone to understand that we are a team and need to work together. We do have brochures on NASCOE and how and why NASCOE was created.
Kevin mentioned CAPWIZ as a good source of information and if you haven’t accessed it yet you should. Again this must be done on your personal computers and not the Government computers.
Chad Hart reminded everyone that we can use e-mails at work but they can’t include membership drives. He also said that the county committee’s can join NAFEC, National Association of Farmer Elected Committeemen. He also said we need to make sure that everyone knows when CASCOE holds hospitality rooms that this does not come from dues money. The refreshments are usually covered by donations taken.
Mary Sitorius will be CASCOE’S new web master and we still need a publicity chair, membership chair and programs chair. The programs chair is to deal with program issues.
The State Convention will be held in the Meeker area September 21st and 22nd.
Nadene talked about a survey that was sent out by NASCOE regarding retired employees and how long it takes them to start receiving their benefits. She asked the District Directors to complete these surveys and return them to her. Some recent retirees were Arnold German, John Hudson, Eunice Berry.
We need to send to NASCOE the names and possibly a picture of those employees who have past away so they can be included in a Memorial Ceremony they do at the national convention. Some recent losses are Pat Morales, Harlin Fletcher, Jean Auburger and Earl McDonnell.
Mary Manly gave an awards report. Last years Colorado winners for Service Awards were submitted to the Area for judging. They were, Service to NASCOE/CASCOE Sandi Nevius, Service to Agriculture Teresa Anderson and Service to Community Vita DeHerrera. The winners of the area judging will be announced at the Area Rally in April. Mary reminded everyone that we all need to start now and come up with nominations for these awards for the 2007 year. They will be due July 31st. Mary also gave a Scholarship report and noted she had 3 applications to send to the Area for judging. The winner of Area judging will also be announced at the Area Rally. They applications from Colorado were Kelli Gaylord, daughter of Kathy Gaylord in Fremont County, Austin Woods, Son of Woody Woods in Washington County and Allyson Britton, daughter of Kathy Britton in Washington County. All three of these applications will be eligible for Colorado’s Scholarship in September regardless of the Area results.
Kim Wood gave the benefits report and said that they are still working on the Sam’s Discount card and other than that there is nothing new.
Chad Hart reported that he had submitted 3 negotiating items. They were regarding floor space, training and staffing. Everyone needs to keep this in mind throughout the year so item of concern can be submitted.
NASCOE web sight has a link to submit these items.
Emblems chair. Since they have the NASCOE store on the web there isn’t much for the emblems chair to do. The web sight is thenascoestore.org you can go online and get what ever you want.
Nadene asked if there were any concerns from the district directors. Brent Fillmore said he has had some complaints about getting so much information and some about not getting enough. He says he never gets responses from anyone. Should he send everything he receives out or not? Kevin Reeves and Chad Hart suggested he send everything out and those that don’t want to read it can just delete it.
Kevin Reeves asked if we were meeting with the State Committee again this year. Chad Hart suggested asking them if they would meet at the Double Tree during the Southwest Area Rally.
Nadene Gaynor mentioned that the NASCOE Convention will be held in Myrtle Beech, South Carolina on August 8th through 11th. Wednesday will be sight seeing tours and the meeting will run from Thursday through Saturday. CASCOE will help with expenses. If anyone is interested in going please let Nadene know.
Nadene mentioned the open chair positions and requested everyone try to come up with someone to fill them. Renee Bullock suggested Woody Woods for the programs chair.
With no further business to discuss the meeting adjourned at 1:45 p.m.
Respectfully Submitted,
Mary Manly
Secretary/Treasurer
